present perfect progressive - function

you use the present perfect progressive for:

actions and events which started in the past and continue to the present without interruptions. These actions and events do not lead to a result. The actions still proceed. 

      e.g. I’ve been working on the computer all day.

             Gerry has been chatting on the phone all morning.

emphasizing the duration of an uninterrupted action

      e.g. We’ve been living in Stuttgart for ten years.

              My parents have been living next to us since 2001.

             Alyssa has been playing the violin since she was a child.

             We’ve been trying to teach her the correct use of tenses for ages.
